About Professor Maher

Dr Maher has a long interest in research and has been rewarded for his efforts with publications in leading international journals, college scholarships and invitations to speak at national and international meetings.

He became head of the Queensland branch of the Continence Foundation of Australia in 2000 and in 2002, Dr Maher joined the scientific committee for the International Urogynaecology Association and chaired this group from 2006-2008.  In 2005, Dr Maher joined the board of Australian Gynaecology and Endoscopy Society and was secretary from 2010-2012. He chaired the Royal Australian & New Zealand College Urogynaecology Sub-specialty Committee from 2009-2011 and currently chairs the Urogynaecology Society of Australasia (UGSA).

Professor Maher also leads the prestigious Cochrane review on the surgical management of prolapse since 2004 and the International Collaboration Incontinence (ICI) on the surgical management of prolapse since 2012.  The University of QLD awarded his PhD in recognition of this work in 2014.
